Social Media for Rotary

The Basics of Social Media for Rotary

Gone are the days when people got information from news stands, the nightly news, and posters around town. Today everything is online, and for your Rotary club to stay visible, it needs to be online as well. The digital market is constantly changing, with new platforms being developed, new algorithms to shake up what you thought you knew, and a fast-paced information cycle, it can seem overwhelming and feel confusing.

It doesn’t have to be difficult, though, to share your club’s activities online and boost the number of eyes looking at your club. The goals are simple: Get new members. Let the members find out information quickly and easily. Promote events. Sarah Crilley will take you through the steps of promoting your Rotary club online, and give tips and tricks for getting engagement and a far reach on each post!

Takeaways include:

  • Using your personal Facebook page to promote your own membership

  • Posting to the Rotary page and sharing their posts to your timeline

  • Using public events to invite people to join in your philanthropic events

Of course there are so many more ways to get Rotary’s mission out in the social media landscape, including using other platforms such as Twitter and Instagram, and going b2b with Linked in.

Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self” and is a call to action within each club. Rotary clubs are known to be places to share ideas, get advice, and learn to become a better leader. Rotarians have always been thought leaders spread throughout the world sharing the ideals of Rotary. Social media is a great way to “get the word out”

Plano Rotary Recap

Thursday, 9/15/16,

“I gave a speech to the Plano Rotary at Gleneagles Country Club to talk to them about how Social Media can enhance their membership and let people know who they are, what Rotary is about and where to attend events. I taught this group how to use Facebook Live.

I shared young people have turned to social media to get information and frequently seek out events online. Millennials have been labeled as lazy and entitled, but I know that is not the case. We are constantly on the lookout for ways to change the world and Rotary has the opportunity to help us get involved with the community. Rotary clubs can create public Facebook events for their charitable works and boost those event pages, targeting them at young people nearby who list volunteering as an interest. You’d be surprised at the level of response you might get ;-)” -Sarah Crilley
